Hmm, very interesting. I’m wondering if this was in development before Autonomy spoke with them about Blinx. I still find these applications a bit suspicious, indexing my email?? I don’t want them poking around my email, I know they aren’t silly enough to send the information to their datacenters, but you never know…

If I understand it correctly, Google Desktop is purely client-based, i.e. all the indexing and searching happens on the desktop and no data is actually sent back to Google. This is very different from Blinkx, which has to send the actual contents of the email or local document back to the Blinkx server in order to retrieve related contents from the web. So Google
Desktop maybe isn’t quite as cool as Blinkx, as it only deals with local content, but therefore probably a lot more trustworthy…
