Spreadshirt

Friday, July 29th, 2005

Ken Adams left a comment for my previous posting about my CafePress store and recommended that I check out Spreadshirt instead. After checking out their website, I am pretty impressed. Spreadshirt operates pretty much the same way as CafePress, which means that you can either create a design for yourself and order your own items, [...]

Ruby on Rails vs. J2EE

Saturday, July 16th, 2005

IBM published a nice article on their developerWorks website that compares Ruby on Rails with J2EE. To be more precise, the article compares the complete Ruby on Rails stack to that of a typical Java web application that combines J2EE with the open source Struts and Hibernate frameworks. Don’t Panic

I’ve been playing a little with CafePress. I have to say it’s a pretty cool concept, and very powerful. My daughter Julianna is drawing the cutest pictures these days, and I thought I’d use that opportunity to put my scanner to good use and upload some of those pictures to CafePress.

Check out my CafePress store.

Multitasking

Thursday, July 7th, 2005

It’s amazing how far computers have come in the past 10 years. I remember when decoding a single JPG image took several seconds on my 386 CPU (that was around the same time I was dreaming about having a 1GB hard drive some day…). Even 7 years ago, encoding MP3s still took a many minutes [...]

iTunes 4.9 / Podcasts

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

In addition to a new iPod update, Apple also released an updated version of iTunes (4.9). The main feature that this version adds is built-in support for podcasts. This is awesome! Podcasts can be selected and subscribed to using the Music Store interface (don’t worry, they’re all free). Once subscribed, podcasts can be configured to [...]

iPod and collections 2

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

Maybe I should have checked Apple’s website before posting my previous blog entry. It turns out that the iPod update that came out a few days ago does in fact address the problem with compilations that I mentioned. This makes a huge difference browsing music on the iPod!
